Inspired by the London Marathon? The chance to pound the streets right here in the Humber is coming up and it’s a perfect opportunity both for those lacing up their trainers for the first time and for the experienced PB hunters. The 15th September 2024 will see runners from across the UK and beyond will take part in the ABP Humber Coastal Half Marathon and 10k in Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire.
Sponsored by Associated British Ports (ABP) and organised by Tape2Tape, the flat and friendly race is now in its 8th year. Runners love the event’s wonderful atmosphere and unique coastal location, alongside the Humber Estuary.
If you are considering a running challenge this year, then now is a great time to register for the race and start training. Both the half marathon and 10k are nice and flat so if you are new to running, or even striving for that personal best as a more experienced runner, the event will be perfect for you.
Event runner from 2023, Mellissa, said: “Words cannot describe this fantastic race! I am very new to running and plucked up the courage to run this event with my friends who are much quicker! Most of them stayed with me and we soaked up the amazing atmosphere around the course.”
Tape2Tape Director Nicola said: “Fondly known in the running community as ‘The ABP’ it’s a great event to register for especially if you have just started running. It is flat with picturesque views across the Humber and an iconic finish on the central promenade with an amazing sea view. No matter your age or ability we are certain that this race will win your heart!

You will be clapped and cheered all the way to the finish and everyone who crosses the finish line by the iconic Cleethorpes Pier will be offered a donut along with your medal and t-shirt for your incredible effort!”
The ABP Coastal Half Marathon and 10k is run in aid of Cleethorpes RNLI. The RNLI are celebrating their 200th year of lifesaving, having formed in 1824.
Simon Bird, Regional Director for the Humber ABP ports said: “We’re delighted to be supporting such a popular event once more. We’re particularly pleased to be supporting the 2024 edition of the race, given the link to the RNLI and their anniversary. Safety is our core value and this year we are working with Tape2Tape and the RNLI to share important water safety messages across the local community and those who visit the region.”
Mick Fowler, Lifeboat Operations Manager, Cleethorpes RNLI said: "We've enjoyed the support of this event for many years now, but it's extra special in our 200th year and we look forward to seeing everyone on the day. Being able to share safety messages will help to keep people safe and the donations we receive do help us to save lives at sea."
If a running challenge this year isn’t possible for you then you can still get involved with supporting the event as a volunteer Race Maker. The ABP Humber Coastal Half Mathon and 10k is supported by 300 volunteers. There is a role to suit everyone - you can cheer runners on the course as a marshal, hand out water at the water stations or the iconic donuts at the end of the race, you can even volunteer as a photographer. Community groups and charities looking to volunteer as a group are welcome too.
