ABP is calling on the people of Barrow to nominate a local hero to open the celebration parade which will be held on Sunday, 16 July, to mark the 150th anniversary of the Port of Barrow.

The winner will receive the honour of raising the famous Michaelson Road Bridge on the day. Nominees could include community activists, politicians, charity workers, individuals from local businesses or voluntary groups or anyone who has played an integral part in contributing to the glory and history of the town.

Carl Bevan, ABP Divisional Port Manager, said: “We need the help of the people of Barrow to be able to choose the best candidate to kick-off celebrations at this special event.

“We are proud to have played a key role in the economic prosperity of the town for the past 150 years and are committed to supporting Barrow’s vibrant local community. Together with our sister Port of Silloth, we contribute around £100m to the region’s economy and support more than 1,500 jobs.”
