ABP on the Humber recently provided five work experience placements to specially selected pupils from Malet Lambert School.

The placements are the product of the partnership established between ABP Humber and the secondary school in 2017.

Having received an induction on their first day with the newly established ABP Academy, the group, who are all in Year 10 at the school, were then sent out to various locations across the Humber to shadow a variety of departments.

Four of the five students are currently interested in engineering placements and the fifth, has a passion for business and cargo operations.

From commercial to property, engineering and maintenance, the group was given an extensive look into the way the port works, with each department playing their part to keep cargoes moving.

Whilst with the Marine team, the group were lucky enough to board the dredger, UKD Seahorse, and were given a behind the scenes tour of the P&O Ferry Pride of Rotterdam as well as being given an introduction to the hydrography team.

Simon Bird, Regional Director for ABP Humber said: “We’re keen to raise awareness of all the fantastic opportunities we have to offer people of all ages through working at the port on the Humber and this is an ideal way to spread the word."
