We monitor our performance and procedures continuously to develop our management of health and safety issues. Reportable injury statistics are communicated to employees on a monthly basis; health and safety issues are also discussed at each board meeting. All UK employees undertaking an annual performance development review are assessed on their health and safety performance and bonus payments partly depend on the attainment of our UK reportable injury target. The monitoring of our health and safety standards is conducted at several levels:
- Our internal audit department undertakes annual health and safety reviews, the findings from which are actioned and reported to the Audit Committee
- The Group Safety Manager leads an in-house team which performs targeted audits at all business units
- Within each business unit, managers, supervisors and safety representatives carry out regular formal safety inspections, which are reported to the local health and safety committee
- We are also subject to inspection and regulation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in the UK and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in the USA.
